Eleanor’s Marriage

Chapter 07 - Eleanor’s Marriage

Eleanor had spent twenty-five years blaming the Sterlings for Claire’s disappearance.

Now evidence pointed toward her own husband.

Victor Vale had controlled the family company while Eleanor managed charitable programs. He viewed Claire’s refusal to approve the merger as betrayal.

After Claire escaped, Victor told Eleanor the Sterlings arranged the boat accident.

He produced photographs of wreckage and a falsified death report.

Eleanor believed him.

“Did you never question why he controlled the search?” Olivia asked.

“I questioned him too late.”

Victor died twelve years earlier.

His private office had remained sealed because the Vale board feared scandal.

Olivia ordered it opened.

Inside were surveillance photographs of Claire and young Olivia living under different names.

Victor knew they survived.

He monitored them for years.

Why had he not taken Olivia?

Claire held something he needed: the master authorization code to Vale Holdings’ employee trust.

If Claire died without activating it, the controlling shares passed to Olivia at age thirty.

Olivia’s thirtieth birthday was two months away.

Ethan’s marriage timeline suddenly made sense.

He needed access before her full voting rights activated.

Victor’s files also contained letters from Richard Sterling.

Richard begged him to leave Claire alone and promised to keep the child hidden.

The two powerful men who publicly hated one another had formed a private arrangement: Richard protected Claire; Victor kept Sterling Hotels financially dependent.

Their children inherited the conflict without understanding it.

Then Olivia found a recent photograph in Victor’s safe.

Claire stood outside a rural clinic only three years earlier.
