Dr. Vale’s Two Charts

Chapter 10 - Dr. Vale’s Two Charts

Investigators searched Dr. Vale’s clinic and found two medical systems.

The official chart described Claire as anxious, noncompliant, and intermittently confused.

The private chart recorded the actual dosages.

It also contained instructions from Eleanor.

INCREASE BEFORE MICHAEL CALLS.

REDUCE BEFORE OUTSIDE PHYSICIAN VISIT.

DOCUMENT AGITATION AFTER FAMILY DISCUSSION.

Vale had turned behavior created by medication into proof that more medication was required.

He used the same method on Graham.

Graham’s private chart showed repeated low blood pressure and signs of sedative exposure before his stroke. Vale documented none of it officially.

The doctor requested immunity.

Prosecutors refused full protection but offered consideration for complete testimony.

Vale confessed that Eleanor first approached him after Graham discovered the data-sales program. She argued that public exposure would bankrupt Whitmore Biotech and end lifesaving research.

He prescribed mild sedatives to “slow Graham down.”

Victor increased the doses.

On the night Graham signed the codicil, Vale stole the blue case and delivered it to Eleanor.

Two days later, Graham collapsed.

“Did you kill him?” Detective Ortiz asked.

Vale looked at the table.

“I delayed calling emergency services.”

“How long?”

“Eleven minutes.”

“Why?”

“Eleanor wanted to locate the trust documents.”

Graham might have survived with faster treatment.

The medical examiner reopened the death investigation.

Vale also admitted paying a garage employee to remove Claire’s brake component after the crash. He claimed he did not order the sabotage.

Victor did.

Rosa listened from the observation room.

“What about Luis?”

Vale said nothing.

Ortiz pressed.

The warehouse fire that killed Rosa’s husband was arranged by a security contractor paid through Blackwood Recovery. Vale knew after the fact and signed a false stress prescription to make Luis appear unstable in company records.

Rosa left the room.

She had waited months for a confession.

Now that it came, it did not contain Luis’s laugh, his habit of singing badly in traffic, or the coffee stain on every report he wrote.

Truth explained his death.

It did not return his life.
