Victor’s Exit Plan

Chapter 11 - Victor’s Exit Plan
Victor Whitmore disappeared the night after the board meeting.
His company car was found at a private airport.
His passport remained in his apartment.
A charter flight departed under the name Vincent Ward.
Federal agents tracked the plane to Belize, but Victor had already transferred to a boat.
The receiver discovered why he ran.
Blackwood Recovery controlled offshore accounts holding seventy-two million dollars diverted from Whitmore’s research grants and patient-data contracts.
Victor planned to purchase the data division through a shell investment group after forcing Claire’s signature.
Eleanor would retain honorary control.
Vale would receive a medical consulting contract.
Michael would be blamed for the company’s failure.
Everyone had been assigned a future except Claire.
She was supposed to remain legally incapacitated.
Rosa helped investigators search Victor’s office. Beneath a false drawer, they found Luis’s original garage report.
BRAKE LINE CUT WITH TOOL. NOT FAILURE.
Attached was a photograph of the damaged component.
Victor had kept it as leverage against Vale and Eleanor.
The file also contained surveillance photographs of Rosa entering Whitmore House after Graham hired her.
They knew who she was from the beginning.
Eleanor had not kept Rosa because she underestimated her.
She kept Rosa where she could be watched.
That realization frightened Rosa more than open hostility would have.
Every private conversation, every note, every late-night search may have been observed.
Detective Ortiz found no hidden camera in Rosa’s room.
Then she examined the antique smoke detector.
Inside was a microphone.
Rosa laughed once, without humor.
“They listened to me grieve.”
The recording archive became additional evidence of illegal surveillance.
One audio file captured Eleanor speaking with Victor after Luis’s death.
“The widow suspects.”
Victor answered, “Then give her a job. People search less effectively when they think they are inside.”

They were wrong.
Rosa had searched every day.
