The Trial Above the Pool

Chapter 11 - The Trial Above the Pool

Victor Vale’s trial included footage from the grand hall, the tunnel, Saint Agnes, and the lake-house suite.

His attorneys described Clara as mentally unreliable.

Independent doctors testified that long-term medication caused many of her memory gaps.

The records did not depend on memory alone.

Bank transfers, forged orders, and camera footage supported every major claim.

Serena testified against her father.

Victor looked at her without expression.

“You chose strangers over family,” he said during a recess.

Serena answered, “You taught me family meant whoever helped you hide the ledger.”

The court also heard testimony from pensioners who lost homes and medical care.

Victor claimed his investments eventually increased company value.

A retired electrician replied:

“You cannot call it investment when you never asked the people whose money you took.”

Victor was convicted on fraud, conspiracy, unlawful confinement, and multiple related charges.

Serena received a reduced but significant sentence.

Several doctors and trustees were charged separately.

The verdict did not repair Clara’s lost years.

It did establish that a private guardianship could not become a prison simply because a wealthy family signed the forms.
