The Trust Before Birth

Chapter 04 - The Trust Before Birth
Samuel Albright’s original will created two companies.
Albright Development remained with his family.
Albright Community Holdings belonged partly to the engineers and workers who built the company’s earliest projects.
Clara Hart received twenty-five percent after designing the safety systems that prevented a fatal structural failure.
Victor removed her from the public history.
Her shares went into a protected trust for Evelyn.
The trust would activate when Evelyn’s first child was born.
Until then, the silver ring and Evelyn’s legal competency controlled the shares.
If Evelyn were declared incapable, the family trustee could manage them.
Victor was that trustee.
Serena was his daughter and Julian’s former fiancée.
She had spent years expecting to marry Julian and control both sides of the company.
When Julian chose Evelyn, Serena pretended to accept it.
She became Evelyn’s “family adviser,” attended medical appointments, and recommended the doctor who later signed the false competency report.
Evelyn looked through the records from her hospital room.
“Everyone around me was collecting evidence that I could not manage my own life.”
Julian sat beside the window.
“I let Serena handle too much.”
“You trusted her more than me.”
“I thought she understood the family systems.”
“She understood how to use them.”
The difference remained between them.
Julian apologized without asking Evelyn to comfort him.
Detective Ortiz found that Serena had scheduled an emergency trust hearing for the following morning.
The petition claimed Evelyn was unstable, violent, and obsessed with a false family history.
Photographs showed Serena with a bruised shoulder after falling near the pool.
The images did not include the camera footage showing how she fell.
The plan had two versions.
If Serena took the ring quietly, Victor would control the trust.

If she failed, Evelyn would be blamed for an attack.
The hidden cameras had interrupted both.
