Julian Returns to the Pool

Chapter 19 - Julian Returns to the Pool
Julian returned to the indoor pool on the anniversary of the incident.
The broken glass had been replaced years earlier.
The wall panel stood open behind protective glass, revealing the entrance to the tunnel.
Evelyn joined him.
“I used to replay the moment Serena fell,” he said.
“Why?”
“I wondered whether I should have reached her sooner.”
“You were with me.”
“She was still in danger.”
Evelyn understood the conflict.
Serena had harmed her.
Serena still deserved rescue from the water.
Both facts could exist.
Marcus had pulled Serena out immediately. No one used her wrongdoing as permission to abandon her.

“I thought good people were the ones who chose the correct side.”
Evelyn took his hand.
