Margaret’s Letter

Chapter 16 - Margaret’s Letter

Two years into her sentence, Margaret wrote to Claire.

She apologized for the nursery incident and claimed fear made her desperate.

Claire read the letter with a counselor.

One sentence stood out:

I saw the company slipping away and believed your child would grow up with nothing.

Claire wrote a short reply.

My child had parents, healthcare, and choices. You called that nothing because you could not control it.

She did not continue the correspondence.

Daniel chose limited contact with Margaret through monitored calls.

He did not ask Claire or Lily to participate.

Margaret’s role as mother did not create automatic access to the people she harmed.

Years later, she provided information that helped recover additional accounts.
