Nathan Testifies Against His Mother

Chapter 14 - Nathan Testifies Against His Mother
Nathan took the stand for two days.
The defense presented every message in which he expressed suspicion about Emma.
They showed an email where he called her secretive.
They played a voicemail where he said he could not continue the marriage without proof.
Nathan did not deny any of it.
“You believed your mother,” the attorney said.
“Yes.”
“Because she had always protected you.”
“Yes.”
“Then her concerns appeared reasonable.”
“They appeared useful to me.”
The attorney paused.
Nathan continued.
“I wanted the accusation resolved without examining why my wife no longer trusted me. My mother gave me an answer that protected my pride.”
He testified about the forged signature, trust clause, burner phone, and hidden letter.
Margaret watched him from the defense table.
Her face remained composed until he said:
“My mother loved me. She also used that love as evidence that she should control what I believed.”
Margaret looked away.
The defense called him an ungrateful son.
