The House Cameras

Chapter 06 - The House Cameras
Cole House used a sophisticated security system.
Margaret controlled the administrator account.
She deleted the bedroom hallway footage every night.
The system still maintained encrypted maintenance backups for seventy-two hours.
Technicians recovered them.
The recordings showed Margaret entering Emma’s room with tea.
Paula locking the door.
Emma attempting to leave.
Margaret taking her phone.
One clip captured Emma sitting on the floor after a fall while Margaret stood above her holding the trust petition.
“You created this problem,” Margaret said. “Sign, and I will let Nathan believe you were simply ill.”
Emma answered.
“He knows me.”
Margaret smiled.
“I raised him.”
That sentence explained her confidence.
Margaret believed motherhood gave her permanent authorship over Nathan’s judgment.
She had spent decades interpreting people for him.
Which employee was loyal.
Which friend was jealous.
Which woman wanted money.
Nathan called it advice.
Margaret treated it as access.
The camera footage showed no dramatic attack.
It showed a chain of controlled doors, withheld phones, medication, pressure, and repetition.

The danger was not one explosive moment.
It was a system designed to make resistance look like illness.
