Sisters Divided by Convenient Lies

Chapter 05 - Sisters Divided by Convenient Lies

Lena and Mara had not spoken privately in almost a year.

Adrian told Lena that Mara considered her irresponsible and jealous of the inheritance.

He told Mara that Lena had demanded money and threatened to challenge their father’s will.

Neither statement was true.

Adrian controlled their contact through assistants, canceled visits, and forwarded only the messages most likely to create resentment.

When Lena called Mara directly, Adrian often answered.

When Mara sent invitations, Lena received them after the event.

The separation looked natural because the sisters had always been different.

Mara was precise, quiet, and corporate.

Lena was direct, impatient, and more comfortable in emergency rooms than boardrooms.

Adrian turned difference into distrust.

At the hospital, Lena opened old messages beside Mara.

One email from Mara read:

I understand if you refuse to come after what you demanded.

Lena had never demanded anything.

A message Adrian forwarded to Mara under Lena’s name said:

Dad’s trust should never have gone to you alone.

Lena had never written it.

The metadata traced the message to Adrian’s office server.

Mara began crying.

“I thought you hated me.”

“I thought you didn’t want me near you.”

Their reconciliation did not arrive in one embrace.

It began with evidence.

Then grief.

Then anger at the years someone else had edited.
