The Board Meeting Without Mara

Chapter 09 - The Board Meeting Without Mara
Crown Apex attempted to proceed with the merger while Mara remained hospitalized.
Adrian produced the temporary guardianship petition and claimed it had been verbally approved.
Trust attorney Miriam Sloan entered the boardroom with a court order stating otherwise.
Lena attended as the independent protector named in Elias Marlowe’s trust.
Mara had never told her.
Their father had.
The trust provided that if Mara’s medical capacity was challenged by someone benefiting financially, Lena would temporarily exercise the disputed voting rights with an independent trustee.
Adrian laughed when he heard the clause.
“The nurse controls a robotics company now?”
Lena answered.
“No. The independent board controls the company until Mara can vote. I control one thing: whether you use her injury as your proxy.”
The merger was suspended.
Grace Chen, Northbridge’s operations director, became interim chief executive.
Adrian’s corporate access was revoked.
Employees feared collapse.
The Marlowe trust guaranteed payroll under conditions of independent governance and preservation of patient privacy.
