Edward’s Confession

Chapter 13 - Edward’s Confession
Edward Blackwood’s full confession was stored in the vault.
He spoke for forty-three minutes.
He admitted hiding company debt, approving surveillance of employees, and allowing Lucas to negotiate with Meridian before informing Adrian.
He knew Dr. Hale blurred medical judgment with family interest.
He suspected the crash involved sabotage but delayed contacting police because exposure threatened refinancing.
“My delay gave the people responsible time to destroy evidence,” Edward said.
He also described confronting Camilla after finding Adrian’s brake report in her office.
Camilla claimed Lucas authorized the contractor.
Lucas claimed Camilla handled security.
Edward believed neither completely.
He changed the trust to transfer temporary control to an independent receiver if any family member used disability, medical coercion, or guardianship to influence a vote.
The archive protocol activated when the brass key entered Adrian’s chair.
Edward had built the safeguard.
He had also waited too long to use it.
Adrian listened beside Lucas during a court hearing.
Their father became neither hero nor victim.
He became accurate.
A founder who loved his sons.
A chairman who protected the company at their expense.
A frightened man who hid evidence inside a blanket rather than confronting the truth publicly.
Adrian asked the court to release the confession unedited.
Blackwood attorneys objected that it would damage the brand.
“That is the point,” Adrian said. “A brand that requires edited history is another liability.”
The judge approved publication after the criminal investigation.

Employees, investors, and guests heard Edward name his own failures.
For the first time, the Blackwood story did not end where the family’s reputation needed it to end.
