The Trial on Bellweather Road

Chapter 14 - The Trial on Bellweather Road
Camilla, Lucas, Dr. Hale, and the security contractor faced separate charges.
The contractor testified first.
Camilla hired him to install a tracking device on Adrian’s car. Lucas later instructed him to create a “temporary mechanical problem” that would delay Adrian’s return to a board meeting.
The contractor cut the brake hose partially, expecting it to leak slowly.
He understood the risk.
He accepted the payment.
The road did the rest.
Lucas denied ordering damage. Camilla denied knowing the method.
Encrypted messages proved both approved the plan.
Hale admitted sedating Adrian after the crash to reduce the chance of recovered memory. He also falsified incapacity reports and prepared contradictory certificates for the wedding.
The prosecution played the wedding video.
Camilla yanking the blanket appeared less important than the brake evidence, yet it demonstrated motive and contempt.
She wanted the public to see Adrian as powerless.
The jury saw her expose the key instead.
Nora testified about Edward’s instructions, medication logs, and the torn seam.
Camilla’s attorney asked whether Nora had romantic feelings for Adrian.
The question was designed to convert credibility into ambition.
Nora answered calmly.
“I cared whether he was safe. If your argument is that care creates bias, explain the people paid to harm him.”
The jury convicted Camilla of conspiracy, fraud, evidence tampering, medical coercion, and reckless endangerment connected to the crash.
Lucas was convicted of fraud, conspiracy, and obstruction. The jury found insufficient evidence that he intended serious physical harm, but enough that he knowingly approved a dangerous plan.
Hale lost his license and was convicted of falsifying records and medical coercion.
The contractor received a reduced sentence for cooperation.
Camilla received twenty-one years.
Lucas received fourteen.
Hale received eleven.
No sentence restored the eighteen months Adrian lost.
