The Brother Who Called It Continuity
Chapter 09 - The Brother Who Called It Continuity
Lucas requested a private conversation with Adrian before formal questioning.
Detective Serena allowed it with cameras recording and attorneys present.
The brothers met in Edward’s study.
Lucas removed his wedding tie.
“You humiliated Emma.”
Adrian stared at him.
“Camilla threw champagne at me. You hid a board vote inside your ceremony.”
“The company was days from default.”
“So you sold it.”
“I saved what could survive.”
“For yourself.”
Lucas walked to the window.
He admitted authorizing the security contractor but denied ordering sabotage. He claimed the payment covered an investigation into leaks.
“Did you know someone cut my brake line?”
“Afterward.”
“And you said nothing.”
“I had no proof.”
“You had the invoice.”
Lucas turned.
“You think morality is simple because you were removed from the decisions.”
Adrian looked at the wheelchair.
“I was removed by the decisions.”
Lucas’s expression tightened.
He argued that Edward favored Adrian from childhood. The eldest son received the CEO title, the trust shares, and the right to veto every major transaction. Lucas inherited expectations without authority.
Meridian offered him a path to lead.
“Did that path require my crash?” Adrian asked.
“No.”
“My medication?”
“I believed Hale was managing symptoms.”
“The incapacity petition?”
“The company needed a vote.”
Lucas spoke the final sentence as though votes existed outside human beings.
Adrian understood then.
Lucas did not wake one morning intending to destroy his brother. He accepted one useful distortion after another until Adrian became a document between him and control.
“You called it continuity,” Adrian said. “Because theft sounded ugly.”
Lucas sat down.
For the first time, he looked like the younger brother who once followed Adrian across hotel kitchens stealing desserts.
“I did not want you dead.”
May you like
“You were satisfied with me silent.”
The distinction ended the conversation.
