Fire Below Terminal Two

Chapter 11 - Fire Below Terminal Two
Smoke filled the archive.
Emergency sprinklers released no water.
Charles had disabled them years earlier to protect paper records from accidental activation. Now the same system protected fire.
Michael and Lena restrained Evan.
Clara ran toward the analog shelves.
Michael shouted her name.
She found the box containing the financial ledger but hundreds of personal archives remained.
No one could carry everything.
Clara opened the main conveyor gate.
The archive room connected to an old baggage belt leading toward customs inspection.
She began placing boxes onto it.
Evan watched.
“You cannot save all of them.”
“No.”
“Then choose which lives matter.”
Clara kept loading.
Michael activated the belt.
Police and customs staff waited at the other end, removing every box that arrived.
Smoke thickened.
Charles refused to leave.
“This airport belongs to me.”
Eleanor entered through the steel door.
She looked at her husband for the first time in thirty years.
“No. It remembered you.”
She pushed his wheelchair toward the exit despite his protests.
A ceiling panel collapsed.
Michael shielded Clara with his body.
The burn scars on his neck reopened beneath the heat.
Noah’s voice came through Clara’s radio.
“Mom, the old freight fans still work. Switch C-9.”
He had studied airport diagrams while waiting upstairs.
Clara pulled the manual lever.
Massive ventilation fans activated.
Smoke moved toward the empty service shaft.
Firefighters reached the archive before the analog tapes burned.
The main server was damaged.
The physical records survived.
