The Child on the Birth Record

Chapter 10 - The Child on the Birth Record
Grace went into labor seven weeks later.
Saint Alden offered a private executive suite.
She chose an ordinary maternity room supervised by nurses she selected.
Elise and Samuel waited outside.
Daniel remained nearby but entered only when Grace asked.
Their daughter was born healthy shortly after dawn.
Grace named her Clara Elise Bennett Hale.
Before she signed the birth certificate, a records clerk read every field aloud.
No company representative entered.
No trust document waited beside the bed.
No ownership transfer depended on the baby’s arrival.
Grace had amended the founder’s trust weeks earlier.
The shares would not pass automatically to her child.
They would enter an independent patient-and-worker foundation.
Clara would receive education and personal security, not control over a hospital network.
Elise held her granddaughter carefully.
“When you were born, powerful people saw a share certificate,” she told Grace.
Grace looked at Clara.
“She gets to be a baby.”
Daniel stood near the window.
He asked permission before touching his daughter.
Grace said yes.
The moment did not repair their marriage.
