The Founder’s Missing Daughter

Chapter 03 - The Founder’s Missing Daughter

Saint Alden Medical Center began as a community maternity clinic founded by Samuel and Elise Bennett.

Samuel was a physician.

Elise was a biomedical engineer and patient-record specialist.

She designed systems preventing infants, medication, and identity files from being switched during emergencies.

The clinic grew into a private hospital network after investor Richard Sloan joined the board.

Richard was Victoria’s father.

Twenty-eight years earlier, Elise discovered that Richard had created duplicate patient identities. Wealthy families paid the hospital to hide births, alter guardianship records, and move charitable funds into private accounts.

Elise planned to report him.

The maternity wing caught fire the following night.

Richard told Samuel that Elise and her newborn daughter were trapped inside.

No verified remains were shown.

Samuel was twenty-nine, grieving, and under pressure to keep the hospital open.

He signed the death declarations.

“I should have demanded proof,” he told Grace.

“You believed your partner.”

“I believed the version that allowed me to keep working.”

Grace understood the sentence too well.

Daniel had done the same with Victoria.

Samuel produced the hospital’s original partnership charter.

Elise owned forty percent of Saint Alden’s parent company. Her shares transferred to her child if that child appeared with the founder’s bracelet and passed independent identity verification.

Grace was now the legal claimant to the largest personal share in the hospital.

The acquisition Daniel planned with Victoria could not proceed without her approval.

Victoria’s motive became clear.

She did not come to the room only to end a marriage.

She came to take the bracelet before Grace’s identity reached Samuel.

Detective Lena Ortiz arrived from the state medical-fraud unit.

She secured the camera recording and forged annulment papers.

Victoria called the event a misunderstanding.

Ortiz replied, “Misunderstandings do not usually arrive with prepared legal documents and a disabled call button.”

The call button wire had been cut.

Someone expected Grace to be alone.
