Daniel’s Decision

Chapter 12 - Daniel’s Decision

Daniel’s investment company faced bankruptcy after the Saint Alden deal collapsed.

His board urged him to sue Grace for interfering with the acquisition.

He refused.

Instead, he opened the company’s internal files to investigators.

The review discovered other contracts signed too quickly, properties occupied without proper oversight, and workers pressured to remain silent.

Daniel resigned as chief executive.

He sold his private aircraft and transferred proceeds into restitution funds for patients held at the research lodge.

Some newspapers praised him.

Grace rejected the hero narrative.

“He is accepting consequences for doors he helped open,” she said. “That is responsibility, not rescue.”

Daniel began therapy and worked in a smaller financial-compliance role under independent supervision.

He visited Clara according to Grace’s schedule.

He arrived on time.

When delayed, he called.

He did not send assistants.

Repair became ordinary and repetitive.

Grace still filed for legal separation.

Daniel accepted it without using the baby, money, or public opinion to pressure her.

For the first time, his love did not arrive disguised as control.
