The Hospital Learns the Truth

Chapter 08 - The Hospital Learns the Truth
The audit revealed stolen pension funds, duplicate patient identities, false charity treatments, and payments to private guardianship attorneys.
Saint Alden employees gathered in the main auditorium.
Samuel stood on stage beside Grace and Elise.
He did not describe the fraud as the work of one corrupt family.
He admitted that administrators, lawyers, physicians, and board members had accepted convenient explanations.
Some knew.
Others did not ask.
Both allowed the system to continue.
Nurse Maria Torres spoke from the front row.
“For years we reported bracelets that did not match files. We were told the software was wrong.”
A records clerk said managers ordered her to merge duplicate identities.
A janitor described sealed rooms cleaned only at night.
The institution had spoken through workers long before the director listened.
Grace announced that her founder shares would remain frozen until employees and affected patients helped design a new governing structure.
Victoria’s allies called the announcement illegal.
The partnership charter allowed it.
Elise had included a patient-safety clause transferring temporary oversight away from executives whenever identity fraud was proven.
For the first time, nurses, technicians, clerks, and community representatives held voting authority.
Daniel watched from the rear of the auditorium.
His acquisition contract was suspended.
His company faced losses.
He did not object.
Grace noticed.

Silence was not redemption.
But it was better than using employees as a threat against her.
