Jonathan Learns the Daily Work

Chapter 18 - Jonathan Learns the Daily Work
Jonathan rebuilt his relationship with Oliver through routines no magazine photographed.
Breakfast.
School pickup.
Medication questions.
Reading every therapist’s note.
Sitting through long stories without checking his phone.
He made mistakes.
He arrived late once and found Oliver waiting beside Amelia.
The old Jonathan would have purchased an apology.
The new one sat on the curb and said:
“I told you five o’clock. I came at five twenty-three. You deserved the truth, not traffic as an excuse.”
Oliver forgave him.
Trust returned through accurate minutes.
In therapy, Jonathan admitted resenting how easily Oliver turned to Amelia.
The therapist asked what the jealousy wanted.
“To be chosen first.”
“And what does your son need?”
May you like
“To be believed first.”
Jonathan learned the difference.
