The Wife Who Managed Every Door

Chapter 07 - The Wife Who Managed Every Door
Vanessa controlled Reed House through systems that appeared efficient.
She reviewed staff schedules.
Opened family mail.
Approved visitors.
Selected physicians.
Managed Jonathan’s calendar.
Chose which school reports reached him.
Every door had a polite reason.
Claire’s parents called too often.
Oliver’s former nanny encouraged dependence.
Amelia’s letters lacked verification.
Trust meetings overwhelmed Jonathan during the merger.
Vanessa never said, “I will isolate you.”
She said, “Let me handle it.”
Jonathan had mistaken relief for partnership.
An audit of household communications revealed eighty-seven blocked calls from Claire’s parents. Twenty-two messages from Amelia. Six legal notices from Miriam Sloan’s office.
Vanessa’s assistant had marked them all:
DO NOT DISTURB MR. REED.
The assistant came forward after the gala.
She said Vanessa threatened to cancel her work visa and expose private medical information if she questioned instructions.
Other staff spoke too.
A driver had seen Oliver crying outside a therapy clinic he never entered.
A tutor had been fired after reporting that the child’s schoolwork was advanced, not impaired.
A cook described Vanessa withholding dessert and family meals whenever Oliver mentioned Claire.
