Damon Carries The Boxes

Chapter 16 - Damon Carries The Boxes

Damon lost most of what he thought defined him.

Sponsors canceled contracts.

His investment fund dissolved.

The mansion disappeared from his videos.

Friends stopped calling when invitations ended.

He moved into an apartment above a gym.

For several months, he blamed Ethan, Malcolm, the press, and the guests who filmed him. Then Victor gave him a box of Adrian’s old documents and told him to deliver it to the Northstar archive.

Damon could have hired someone.

He carried it himself.

At the archive, he found Ethan stacking evidence boxes with employees. No photographers were present.

Damon placed the box on the table.

“I thought there would be staff.”

“There are,” Ethan said. “We’re the staff today.”

Damon looked at the labels: worker patents, erased founders, trust correspondence, safety complaints.

His father’s empire had been built from thousands of documents nobody expected rich sons to read.

Damon spent the afternoon sorting them.

He discovered a complaint filed by a security guard he had mocked at a party. Another file documented unpaid event workers from his own brand launch.

The harms were smaller than Adrian’s death.

They were still his.

Damon created a restitution account from remaining personal assets. He did not film the process. He met workers through independent mediators and accepted that some wanted money without conversation.

Months later, he asked Ethan whether forgiveness was possible.

Ethan answered, “Possible is not promised.”

Damon nodded.

He continued working at the archive twice a week.

Not as punishment assigned by court.

As a choice nobody applauded.

That was how Ethan began to believe the change might be real.
