The Boy Everyone Filmed

Chapter 02 - The Boy Everyone Filmed
Ethan Hale had spent most of his life learning how quickly clothes became evidence.
At school, worn sneakers meant laziness.
At restaurants, a backpack meant he should be watched.
At the Cross mansion, a gray hoodie made a crowd certain he belonged near a service entrance.
Nobody asked why he arrived alone.
Nobody asked why the gate opened before he touched it.
Nobody noticed the silver watch until he used it.
Damon moved closer after the house system changed.
“This is a prank.”
Ethan remained still.
“You should call your security team.”
Damon pulled out his phone.
No signal.
The mansion’s internal network had separated from private devices. Guests could still make emergency calls, but the party streaming system, access controls, cameras, and financial display walls no longer answered Damon’s account.
A man in a black suit hurried from the main hall.
Victor Shaw was the estate manager. He had served Damon’s family for eight years and never appeared uncertain in public.
Now he stared at Ethan’s watch.
“Where did you get that?”
Ethan turned his wrist.
“My father gave it to my mother before he died.”
Victor went pale.
The watch had belonged to Adrian Hale, founder of Northstar Systems and designer of the mansion’s security architecture. Adrian died in a private-plane crash sixteen years earlier. After his death, Northstar’s controlling trust passed to his business partner, Malcolm Cross—Damon’s father.
At least, that was the story presented to courts and investors.
Damon looked around at the silent guests.
“My father owns this estate.”
“No,” Ethan said. “Your father managed it until the beneficiary turned nineteen.”
Damon laughed, but the sound lacked confidence.
“You?”
Ethan nodded.
“Midnight was my birthday.”
The crowd reacted all at once.
Phones moved closer.
Whispers spread.
A blonde guest covered her mouth.
Someone near the pool began searching Ethan’s name.
Damon stepped into Ethan’s space.
“You think a watch makes you an heir?”
“No.”
Ethan unzipped the backpack.
Damon’s friends leaned forward, expecting cash, drugs, or another trick.
Ethan removed a sealed black case.
“The watch only opened the house.”
May you like
He placed the case on a table between the red cups.
“The evidence inside opens everything else.”
