The Two Hundred

Chapter 08 - The Two Hundred
Investigators asked what Adrian meant by two hundred.
The answer was found in a private disciplinary contract drafted by Camille.
It described two hundred symbolic “strikes” administered with a flexible ceremonial cord, divided across several sessions and recorded as evidence that Elena accepted responsibility.
The document used polished language:
RESTORATIVE MARITAL ACCOUNTABILITY.
VOLUNTARY CONSEQUENCE.
REPUTATIONAL REHABILITATION.
There was nothing restorative or voluntary about it.
The number had been selected because Camille believed extremity would make Elena appear irrational if she later described it publicly.
“No reasonable person would agree to that,” an investor might say.
Exactly.
The plan required people to assume the story was too disturbing to be accurate.
Elena had already endured earlier “sessions,” though not two hundred. The visible marks were documented by the physician who arrived with Victor.
The story would not dwell on each injury.
The pattern mattered more than spectacle.

A demand dressed as consent remained coercion.
A private contract could not legalize fear.
