Victor Lane Returns
Chapter 10 - Victor Lane Returns
Victor contacted Julian from an encrypted phone.
He offered Leah’s complete medical file and the location of offshore accounts in exchange for safe passage.
Julian allowed Ortiz to manage the call.
Victor claimed Celeste had become more dangerous than he expected.
“She ordered the fire at the maternity wing.”
“You built the system she used,” Julian said.
“I can help dismantle it.”
“That does not erase what you did.”
Victor arranged a meeting at an unfinished children’s clinic.
Police found him inside the main lobby holding a briefcase.
He looked older than Julian remembered.
For six years, he had appeared at family dinners, birthdays, and memorials.
Amara once called him Uncle Victor.
The briefcase contained account numbers and patient transfers.
Victor also carried a final video from Leah’s laboratory.
It showed Eleanor and Celeste entering after Leah had been removed.
Celeste planted evidence suggesting Leah stole foundation money.
Eleanor watched and did not stop her.
Victor tried to leave through a rear exit.
Ortiz arrested him.
He seemed genuinely surprised.
“You need my cooperation.”
“We have it,” Ortiz said, lifting the briefcase. “Cooperation changes sentencing. It does not create freedom.”

Victor had spent his career writing rules for other people.
For the first time, he entered a system he could not privately negotiate.
