Bunny Goes to School

Chapter 14 - Bunny Goes to School
Amara returned to school with Bunny inside her backpack.
The administration wanted the toy left at home because it contained evidence technology.
A child advocate suggested removing the recorder while allowing the toy.
Amara agreed.
The memory chips went into the protected archive.
The bunny remained hers.
Classmates had seen the news.
Some asked whether Celeste was an evil stepmother.
Others asked whether Amara was rich.
She answered neither.
“I’m Amara.”
During show-and-tell, she brought a different object: a small houseplant from Leah’s hospital room.
She explained how leaves turned toward light.
The teacher did not ask her to tell the courtroom story.
That boundary mattered.
At lunch, a boy pulled one of Bunny’s ears.
Amara shouted.
The teacher intervened.

Later, Amara apologized for yelling but did not apologize for protecting the toy.
She was learning that boundaries could be firm without becoming secrets.
