Julian Steps Down

Chapter 13 - Julian Steps Down

Julian resigned as chairman of Cross Children’s Medical Network.

Some directors asked him to remain for stability.

He refused.

“The network should not depend on another Cross family member promising to be better.”

An independent board took control.

Half the seats belonged to medical workers, patient advocates, former foster youth, and community representatives.

The other half included financial and clinical experts with no family ties.

The Cross name remained only in the historical archive.

Julian entered a parental accountability program and reorganized his life around Amara’s actual needs rather than scheduled appearances.

He attended school meetings.

He learned the names of her friends.

He stopped sending assistants when he was expected.

Amara did not reward him with instant trust.

One afternoon, he arrived ten minutes late to a visit.

She had already begun a puzzle without him.

He apologized and joined quietly.

Repair did not always look dramatic.

Sometimes it meant accepting that other people would not pause their lives until you became reliable.
