The Trial of Celeste Ward

Chapter 12 - The Trial of Celeste Ward
Celeste’s trial became national news.
Prosecutors charged her with conspiracy, attempted fraud, unlawful restraint, child endangerment, and financial crimes.
Her attorneys described the bedroom incident as a misunderstanding.
Then the recording played.
“Give it to me.”
“No.”
“You took something from my desk.”
The courtroom heard Amara cry out.
They heard Julian enter.
They heard Celeste fall without being touched.
The recording destroyed the assault accusation.
Financial evidence showed Celeste’s deeper role.
She authorized false patient files, paid the physician who prepared Amara’s psychological report, and moved charity money into private accounts.
Celeste testified in her own defense.
She said Victor manipulated her after she grew up in poverty.
Leah listened from the gallery.
Many people in the stolen records grew up poor.
They did not all choose to erase children.
The jury convicted Celeste on most counts.
Victor pleaded guilty and received a reduced but substantial sentence for cooperation.
Eleanor faced separate charges and forfeited her foundation assets.
No verdict repaired Amara’s lost school months or Leah’s stolen years.

But the legal record no longer called the conspiracy care.
It named the actions plainly.
