The Mansion Without Cameras

Chapter 17 - The Mansion Without Cameras
Julian sold the mansion.
The new owners converted part of it into a residential advocacy center and part into public offices.
Amara’s old room was not displayed.
The hidden hallway camera was removed.
The bedroom became a counseling space with large windows and doors that could never be locked from the outside.
Before leaving, Amara walked through the room with Leah and Julian.
She placed the gray bunny on the sofa where she had held it that morning.
Then she picked it up again.
“This comes with me.”
“Of course,” Julian said.
The marble threshold where Celeste fell remained.
Amara looked at it.
For years, adults had argued over who was the victim in that moment.
The full recording answered the factual question.
Healing answered a different one.
Amara no longer needed the room to confirm what she remembered.
They left together.

Julian locked the front door and handed the key to the center director.
No Cross family member owned the building anymore.
